Eating at School

All of our meals are freshly prepared using seasonal ingredients from local suppliers, including free range eggs. The school kitchen also uses produce grown in the school garden and encourages the children to taste them. On a daily basis, children may choose a cooked school meal or to bring a packed lunch from home. All children sit together for lunch in the dining hall.

The children alternate between meal sittings on a weekly basis: 1st sitting 12.00, 2nd sitting 12.20 approx. This way we ensure that no one class is always the ‘last’ or the ‘first’ to the canteen. During the year we have special promotion and themed lunches to support the school curriculum. Details are published in the school's newsletter.

The price for a school lunch is £2.30 for two courses, the main meal and a dessert. Water and milk are free. Cartons of drink are on sale for 40p.

A menu board outside the dining room helps children with their choice.

Our catering staff pride themselves on being friendly and approachable, encouraging children to talk to us about their dietary requirements.

We are all concerned about eating healthily. Children are encouraged to bring in healthy snacks for break and are not to bring sweets to school. The school menu provides children with a healthy balanced meal to nationally recognised standards. We award a Healthy Eating Certificate each week in assembly.

The catering team is fully trained and aware about all food allergies. Please let us know if your child has an allergy or intolerance.

If you believe that your child may be eligible for free school meals, please contact the office for an application form. Children on free school meals are not identified when they go to the canteen, and so no parent or child need worry about this if applying for their entitlement.

We can provide healthy packed lunches to order, for children going on school trips.

You can speak to the catering team on Parents Evenings, at the Catering Stand at school events such as the summer fair and also at our weekly ‘Come to Lunch’ when parents are invited to come in to school and have lunch with their children.

We welcome any suggestions, comments or feedback.
